View Full Version : Change throttle?

On my 250 I have to twist my throttle at least 3/4 of a turn. Can I possibly use a different throttle with a bigger spool on it to get full throttle with less turn on it?

yeah. EDR sells a Yoyodyne kit that comes with 3 different wheel sizes.

What does something like that run?
I probably need to upgrade my front master cylinder too. I really need more "grab".

Why do you need a sensitive throttle? Don't you just hold it pinned open?

:lol

A Yoydyne throttle typically runs about $200 depending on how merciful Ed Who? is feeling on any particular day.

Also, if you want less turn then you want a smaller spool, not a larger one. The Yoyodyne throttle comes with three different spool sizes but I only use the small one. The medium and large spools could be good to use on rain days when you want more throttle sensitivity but on a 250 you'll probably never use them.

The Brembo forged Master cylinder is a good choice of master cylinder if it doesn't disqualify your bike from it's racing class. They provide excellent braking and are only about $300 with a folding lever no less. Contact EDR and they can style you in on which one would be best for your bikes braking system.

Where's the rolling on the floor grabbing my belly tears running down my face smiley when you need it??? lol
I literally am pointing my palm to the sky when its pinned. I just want something I dont have to twist almost a full turn for safety's sake. I thought maybe I could just swap it with something cheap to get the amt of turn I want. Not cheap but off another type of bike.

Are there other options besides Brembo like off another bike as well? I'm racing in the cheapskate class.

Ah yes the cheapskate class, I know it well. Yamaha uses brembo units for many of it's master cylinders and Kawi makes a nice one as well. The Suzuki MC are less nice. As for the throttle you may be ablt to adapt one from an OEM product but the issue is in finding / making cables that will fit you bike. Check with EDR, they have more experience with this. Good luck!

both are WAY overkill for that bike! Im not sure, cause never tried, but you should try a different throttle tube first, like a yamaha one, for under $10.

OK now we are goin in the right direction. What does a diff throttle tube do? is it just bigger/smaller? Feelin stupid here.
What should I do to get more braking power instead of feeling like im locking it up on ice?

doesnt ron or fuzzy know? ROFL TOTALLY kidding...(inside joke with her and i) you need to find a throttle tube that fits and on gsxr's the yamaha fits and it has a little bit larger "wheel" so the cable pull is not as long. as for brakes, 1st try some new pads..what are you using now? have you put on ss lines? what fluid you using? is the brake lever pivot bolt rusty/dry? honestly i see this alot on kawasaki's the pivot bolt (thru the lever) is all sticky/rusty and the lever feel is horrid! try to check that out.

Are yoyodyne throttles SS legal? I too suffer from the small hands.... :(

Asphalt's 250 is not supersport legal I dont think. I doubt she is worried about being disqualified.

The brake fluid is fresh, I think it has stainless lines.

I would check the pivot bolt as Ed Who suggests and try some new pads. Maybe bleed the system again with the zip-tie the lever trick.

As far as throttle goes, you might try the Wera boards? Maybe someone in Cali has some experience with 250's and knows what throttle tubes will work?

Jody you are "flat wristing" it. I can teach you a different method for using the throttle for free. Your choice.

Actually no one has worked on my bike (except help take my carb apart) but us so far. I have a service manual, 1-1/2 good hands, and almost every tool I could need, I just need tweaking help the book doesnt mention.
I thought I would need a larger "wheel" but someone above said the opposite so I got confused. I have Dot4 and SS lines and pads are at 75%.

Bitch slap coming your way! :slap: (inside joke!)

I'm not sure if I should giggle or not...Is that a "man" method that I am doing?:warn:

No it's just a common mistake street riders make. Just reach further over the top for your throttle start, instead of starting flat wristed. That is what causes your funky wrist angle at WOT.

Jody,

This is my check list for brakes.

1. fresh fluid
2. fresh pads
3. bleed fluid
4. clean rotors (scotch brite)
5. clean calipers, get all the brake dust off the cups.

I have a good idea for the throttle tube you can try. Lots of people put a throttle tube from an R1, on thier bike. I believe the R1 and R6 throttle tubes are the same. Pull the throttle tube of your R6 and see if it will work on the ninja. If it works BHY usually has them in stock for under $10.

What is a good choice for pads? Of course if they are made for the 2fiddy.

Jody, try Vesrah VD-427JL you should be able to get them thru your work (via pu)

Huh?! The larger the wheel the less the throttle will turn. A larger diameter wheel pulls more of the throttle cable with less movement..... The stock wheel is TINY compaired to the Yoyodyne stuff.

R1 tube on any gixxer helps a lot.
good pads and clean sistem is the way to go.

EBC grab like a jealous bitch.

since we're on the subject of throttle tubes...

Will an R1 tube require any other modifications to put on my GSXR-750? which year R1 or does it not matter?

Also will it affect the mapping on the Bazzaz unit?

Thanks!
