02 sensor on 08 R1

I read on the R1 forum that the engine light will not come on when you remove the 02 sensor. Hard to believe when it does feed back info for the engine? Or does it come on but you have to turn it off with the PC3 when installed?

Question is, "how would the light "not" come on, seems to me it would or should".. :):
