Alright everyone!

My buddy Briggs has been preparing me for next race season by kicking my ass and making me train for the Mercer Island Half Marathon in March.

So here's an open challenge to y'all! Come out and run it with me! http://www.mercerislandhalf.com. March 9th, 2008.

Now up until a few weeks ago I did not run any distance running. I played football for 20 years (coached made us run 4x100 relays on the track team), basketball, baseball, etc. But never ran more than a couple miles at a time.

I'm not a small guy, so if I can do this, the rest of you momma's boys can do this. :) So come on out and have some fun. 13.1 miles. You'll be done in a couple hours or less. :D You have 13 weeks till the race, which is more than enough time to get ready. There are plenty of Novice 12 week programs for doing a half.

C'mon...where's your commitment to winning?!

Just Do It!

No Eric but you can run and yell at me. :p

Thanks Dan. We'll see what my knees have to say after it. So many years of ball, they already aren't very happy with me. :)

Nico - Is Jen doing it? I might be in but not likely to run the WHOLE thing...I'll give it a shot though!

Yeah..we do Team runs at work that are about 5 miles but they are through canyons and shit and I am DONE when we are through. 13 Miles!!!!??? Fak That Shit. I'll go ahead and prestage the paramedics for ya!!!!

All I can say is, stretch your ass off when you are done and drink a shit load of water to reduce the amount of lactic acid build up so you wan't be as sore...you WILL be sore!!

Awesome, someone else that is sick in the head like me! I might be VERY interested in running this. Last fun run I did was The Hood to Coast. 112.8 miles longest relay race in the world. I did it with two weeks of training to haha

Nico no promises, as my knees are shite too. But I am back in the gym seriously now and I am running 12-15 miles a week. As I step it up if I feel good I'll do it with ya.

Nice job. I'm currently training for a half iron-man and plan to go iron man canada in '09. If you're local I'd be willing to train with you but won't be able to run the marathon with you unfortunately. If you need motivation go watch the Portland marathon and see some of the people that actually finish...it's sure to inspire you that even you can do it ;)

Good luck.

Oh, my first post on the sweet new forum. Thanks EDR!

welcome Rdawg.

Nico i'd honestly love to join ya.. I ran when i was 12-18 A LOT. I was on track and even got a bit of scholarship help from University of Arizona for my track...but i kept blowing my knees out in football, and slowly the running got slower. i still recall running 10 miles a day for FUN (hell now i get mad if the remote is out of reach) i have my scholarship fitness report still too....4.8% bodyfat! HEY YO! been a long time since dem dayz!

I started running again this month at 6am and love it so far. knee swells a bit still but not bad. I need to see DPW's dad (He is on here as Santiago) for some shoe help, Santiago owns a kick ass shoe store in beaverton...highly recommend!!

What is the name of the shoe store? I was actually going to buy new shoes today but might hold off and go check out his store. I'd prefer to buy from a local company rather than a big box store.

Nice work on running. I'm sure it's tought to get on any type of routine with your work schedule.

You should post up some pictures of your Al Bundy years ;)

Sounds good Luke.

I hear you Eric. My knees are definately feeling it already. 20+ years of playing football have definately had their effect. But I at least wanna do this once to say "I did it." Plus its something to keep me occupied until race season starts. :D

Well if all you nancy's really want to man up we should all train and register for the 2009 Hood to Coast as a team. I would say the 08 but the race fills every year without fail on the first day of registration. I know it sounds absolutely sick in the head. But honestly it was the funnest race I have ever run in my life. Plus when you finally cross the finish line as a team no matter how broken you are there are no words to describe the feeling you get from realizing what you and your team mates just did.

LOL No way dude. Let me hit you in the knee with a dull hatchet. Only after you jump off of some trucks at about 40mph oh about 300 times. Then let's talk about running the hood to coast.
