here is a quick run down.

i got the bike in my garage. 03 cb919

bike has been torn down part way and came with box of parts.

starter side case was already off when i got it.
came with parts box that had a new case cover and starter drive gear that sits behind the fly wheel.

fly wheel was replaced by prior owner, but gear behind it was not.
prior owner said he gave up when he couldn't get the case cover to sit properly.

So I take over from where he left off.
I put a socket on the center bolt and turn to see if it turns true.
No, it turns warped. That is what keeps the case from sitting flush. The fly wheel hits the case when it turns.

I assume this means the crank itself is bent??????
Thus needing a new motor???
I assume this is a parts bike now or is there still hope???

what do ya think E????

I know E is busy with the move so if you don't mind other input. I am just assuming this started with a crash? I would first pull it back off and check to see that flywheel is on correctly and not bound on key. Then check for crank run out with dial gauge. Who knows maybe the owner tried to pull the new flywheel back off (with a claw puller) and damaged it. You may get lucky.

any advice is greatly appreciated. I forgot about that move.
Let me see if I can get it off again.....I tried last night but no luck.

My experience, when a bike hits so hard on the flywheel, the crank is bent....

If you care about the bike, just replace and do it the right way.
