View Full Version : Brothers First Time at PIR, Good TD Providers?

I am not new to racetracks but my younger brother is. I'm fortunate enough to live in Santa Cruz, CA. which gives me easy access to some of my favorite tracks.
My younger brother that lives up in Portland picked up an 08 R1 last year and I want to get him on the track at PIR. I havent rode there since 99 when I last raced in OMRAA. Damn I miss those days!
Which organizer has some of the best classroom/on track novice instruction? Not interested in throwing down upwards of $500+ bones on a 2 day school or one on one. Just an organizer that has some morning classroom knowledge to impart and kick ass instructors.
Lastly, as tires have changed quite a bit since I last rode up there, what compounds work well for PIR in Pirelli DOT Supercorsa Pro and Dunlop DOT 211's? Is there a preffered brand track junkies are running at PIR or is it personal preference just like down here?
Waiting for the sun,
Anthony

It all comes down to personal preference. That includes trackday schools and tires.
There are a few trackday companies up here. www.2-fast.org, www.cascadetracktime.com, www.pssrtrack.com just to name a few.
Tires are the same. People run what they know and trust. We have Michelin, Dunlop, and Pirelli up here. All this brands are at pretty much every trackday and they can tell you what compounds work the best for the conditions for that day.

Thats the info I was looking for. Thank you. Needed some organizers to contact. Was hoping for a little more insight into their program but perhaps someone else will chime in.
Regarding compounds, I am sure some work better than others at PIR. Like SC3's do well at T-hill due to its abrasive surface and scorching summer temps. Whatever, I'll just have him run some Sportmax Q2's since he will be running some slower laptimes anyways.
As for myself, I run dunlop DOT 211's on a 2004 Aprilia RSV Factory. In summer would a med/hard or med/soft work well at PIR?

Cascade track time is the company that has OMRRA's novice school program,so I would assume that if he is looking for instuction, that would be top on the list.....Pirelli SC2 front and SC2 (for longevity)or SC1 (grip) rear is money. Dunlop 211 N-Tech med. front and a med/soft rear works well......pretty much whatever you would run @ Infineon you would run @ Portland. Whatever you run at T-Hill you would run a compound softer on the rear.....same front. I will be instructing @ Cascade Track Time every event so if your brother needs a set of take offs I will gladly give him a set to run a track day on,free of charge! Sam #5

Sammy, 2Fast ALSO has the OMRRA Novice Program. Again, lowitz nailed it. They are all good in their own ways. Everyone has their favorite. Find one that fits your riding, 2Fast, CTT, PSSR, MotoCorsa.
I personally at PIR like and run 2Fast. I have not done a CTT or PSSR event in the last few years however, so i am biased to the one i like the best and know the folks best. again, ALL put on a great event.

your avatar is...um, nevermind. That dude needs to eat a sandwich.
Thanks for the info. After some research I was leaning towards Cascade or 2 fast. That stationary lean bike is an awesome idea. Would def help my bro overcome more of his fear.
What kind of take offs are we talking here? Thats a sweet offer. Does Cascade have a tire vendor on site usually? I would assume so. But you never know. And I love the idea of 30 min. sessions with Cascade if you pay a bit more. Kick ass.

I ran Pirelli's last year and could hook him up on Dunlops or Pirelli's,a SC2 front and a SC1 190 rear is what I have mostly,I have tons of them and need to lighten my load. Tire vendors are on track and if he decides to do Cascade Track Time, have him pit next to me.....he should also choose a trackday on fri. right before a OMRRA race so he could hang out in my pitts and pitt whore for me.......Sam Verderico #5

Aim your questions at the owners that are on here...

I would reccommend the 6680 compound on the rear at PIR, the surface is like Thunder Hill, abrassive. The 7704 has more grip, but I think your brother would be just fine with the 6680, it will last a long time. I am the NW Dunlop vendor, if Sam gives him some tires I will mount and balance them for ya. I will be at all CTT, 2Fast events. The Q2 would be a great tire as well, hope that helps.

He's my pit whore. back off. :71:
Thanks but he wants to ride on new rubber. Q2's probably. I personally love pirellis but my bike would cold tear the rear severely at T-hill no matter what Dave Moss and I did so I switched to dunlops. No more problems.

He is most likely going to run Q2's. I run a 6680 on the rear most days of the year as T-hill is where I go most of the time. What front do you reccomend at PIR?
Thanks for the tip.

I've done at least a couple track days with all the companies mentioned and they are all excellent. The biggest difference is CT typically runs 2 groups w/ each group out on the track 30 minutes per hour and all the others have 3 groups at 20 minutes per hour each.

The 6704 front is the way to go, I have had a few on the 6680, but the 6704 works the best.
