If my memory serves me right, 17/45 was a good 5 speed gearing for Pacific, but I'm going back to 6 speed. With the 5 speed gearing you have to down shift into 1st gear going into T3...very difficult, so you end up having to do it real late into the corner...no room for error. Also, you'll end up having to upshift going up the hill into T8, I think this takes away your drive from T8 to T9. Granted, I didn't get much time to get used to the 5 speed gearing, but I'm going back to what I know best...6 speed.

The drive out of T4 and T7 was definitely better with 5 speed, but the other corners took a little getting used to. Don Beck had an analytical way of proving 5 speed was better and I agree with his methodology, but putting it into practice is a whole different animal...at least it was for me!

When I bought my '07 R6 from Gulin I struggled with the five speed setup too. Shifting into 1st gear for T3 and coming into the bus stop at Pacific was a little nerve racking. Going into 1st before coming into T6 at Spokane was tough too.

I am still not convinced it is the way to go although everybody seems to be running a five speed setup with the R6. I am going to continue with the five speed for a few more rounds and then try the six speed again. I know I was running a 43 on the rear for a while but recently switched to a 44. Should I switch again for T hill?

I would gear two teeth down for thunderhill, very short straight.

IMO Pacific is difficult to run the 5sp set up. HOWEVER on the R6's is almost a must...6th gear is useless (this is where i need protocycle to pop in with some nasa like data) and at PIR it too must be used.! At PIR the 5spd gsxr is what the top guys albeit dpw run on the 750's.
