Drive sprocket nut?

How important is it to replace the drive sprocket nut when changing the drive sprocket? I'm changing the sprocket out right now and the old one I took off doesn't look like it was staked into the drive axle originally... Can this nut be reused?

I've never changed mine out, hasn't failed yet. Look at the threads, oftentimes the manuals say to change nuts or bolts because the threads will stretch during torqueing. If your threads look stretched or a little bit "off", definitely replace it. I'd be surprised if they did though.
