I'm thinking about powdercoating my wheels and looking for a good local shop to do so. Any particular prep that needs to be done prior to handing them over like removing the bearings and valve stems? What about sanding them prior or would that be part of the price? Speaking of price, what am I looking at for a set of wheels in a basic color. Thanks. :drunk:

I have used M@M in Vancouver quite a few times. A set of wheels should be close to $50. I usually just clean the wheels as good as I can. They might need to do a little sandblasting.

Thanks guys, I'll give both a call when I actually start taking my bike apart here in a few days.

One final question though. Am I crazy for wanting to do them in white? They can't get that dirty can they?

my gixxer wheels were white and they honestly weren't THAT big of a pain. i would wipe them down with goo gone once a week to keep em looking good. that was on a street bike, on a race bike they would be even easier to maintain.... well if you stay out of the grass :)

I had it my mind that powdercoating may effect the heat treatment a metal. I don't recall the specifics, but I think the process cures the paint at 3-400 degrees.

I had Eric's guy handle the wheels of my 954 and they look amazing! The glossy black turned out better than I imagined. Definately worth the money! Check him out.

I'm bouncing off the walls in anticipation! This damn EDR calendar is a great selling tool. I figure after I recover from this little venture I'll do the Speigler brake lines, the rear rotor, and a little love to the suspension.

ok, so quick question on this...

I have two sets of RS125 rims that need to be repainted. I don't know shit about powdercoating so I'm assuming its a form of paint process. What are the costs associated with getting this done. How much work is it to get the rims ready for painting/powdercoating and what are the typical turn around times?

thanks,

Mario

Hey Warren,

The wheels are clear coated so grass and dirt SHOULD wipe off. I'll try to keep them clean ;)

Good to meet you again this weekend. I knew you looked familiar and I'll tell my bro that you said hi. As for him racing this year, he gained weight over the winter and it's no doubtful if his suit fits anymore. LOL!

Powdercoating is kind of like paint but much more durable. It's a spray coating that's baked onto the surface.

I just dropped the wheels without tires off at EDR and they took care of the rest. The wheels are stripped of all hardware (bearings, valve stems, etc.) and then given to the powdercoater. They strip all the paint and then apply the powdercoat.

Eric will give you all the specifics.

So if you were going to powder coat a frame what other color would you go with besides black?? Has anyone even seen something other that black?
