08 CBR 1000RR drinking oil

Hey Ed, my street steed is outta control with the oil consumption, 500 miles of hard riding, and I add an entire qt, over and over again. Have you dealt with this on other bikes. Have you dealt with Honda to warranty any other motors yet? WTF? This is outta control

welcome to your new bike! YES! the 08+ CBR1000RR BURNS thru oil! Nothing much you can do. Its a poor piston design. After seeing them first hand you can see why too.

I would not worry about it more than enjoy the bike. Aftermarket pistons such as CP or such would help but $$ to do.

Our race bikes are even worse due to higher load/rpm's.

Eric, from what I've gathered on the fireblade forums, it's in batches, and not all bikes are doing it. Mine doesn't move, my neighbor goes through about a ml/mile and he takes it easy. noticeable smoke on decel with his bike though.


Honda is sometimes replacing motors/giving out new bikes but you have to stay on them about it to get resolve. Most dealerships will shrug their shoulders and mention they haven't heard any problems.

I hate my local dealers, I have heard the same thing, wondering if I should try to get a motor or not, I wont let anyone touch it but Dorn, getting frustrating
