Just wanted to give a quick review of the STAR school I attended last week at T-Hill. After getting back on a bike for the first time is essentially 4 years last October and doing 2 track days at PIR, I decided that it would be prudent to attend a riding school and learn the "right" habits instead of relearning all of my bad habits from the past. Besides I needed an excuse to ride my new to me racebike (thanks Pat and Eric :)).

Left Portland on Sunday morning and made good time until I hit the freaking white out in Ashland :( I know it is only March but I am seriously tired of the snow!

Showed up to the track bright and early on Monday morning and after a brief classroom session went out on the track for a follow the leader session. Even though it was a very slow session and was never intended to be at speed, my first impression of my new bike was something to the effect of "holy sh!t this thing is fast and nimble." My previous bike was a 96 GSXR 750 and while I loved it, I couldn't believe that I never upgraded sooner :). During the second on-track session, I got on the gas a little on the straight and WOW I can't believe how hard the '06 750 pulled - nice job Eric :).

The school was good and Jason P and his crew were all really cool and very knowledgeable. It was a blast to ride bitch with Jason and be concerned about whether or not I was going to be able to stay on the back (I couldn't believe how hard he braked and got on the gas!). Definately would recommend this school to others.

To make a long story short, I had a great 3 days meeting folks such as Pat & Millie, Chuck B., John M., and Mark D. and numerous others and although I never really went all that fast I learned a great deal and had a fantastic time. Special thanks to Pat for being so patient with me and sharing his generator when mine crapped out. Also wanted to say thanks to Barry for the suspension work (we definately need to change the rear spring for my hmmm increased mass :)) and new Dunlops (I can't believe how much better the tires are now than they were 4 years ago). Special thanks to Eric and the rest of the EDR crew for helping me get back on the horse.

Nice Job, I had a great time as well. Perfect weather and a great track to ride. Pat is a wealth of electrical items. He saved me previously when I forgot a cord. And the tires lasted so well I couldn't believe it. It was great seeing everyone, and I can"t wait for next weekend.

Yes, ditto to what John & Chuck said about the Pridmore experience. I will never forget my 2-up with Jason. "Eye opening" and "Mind blowing" descriptors don't even come close to the actual impact. Seeing what these bikes we ride are capable of ...... well, there aren't words to adequately describe it. And to top it off, I asked Jason what level he's actually riding at when doing 2-ups and he says, "About 60-65%". GMAFB :1087: . He's coming up to PIR later this year and I really hope we support his effort to bring his school to us.

I asked Jason to consider checking out ORP while up here so that if he gets a good response from us this time and decides to return, we might be able to take advantage of what that track has to offer in terms of learning opportunities.

We are indeed fortunate to have all the opportunities we have to be mentored by top level racers and their schools. Adding Mark DeGross & his 2Fast operation and Jason Pridmore's Star school to our PIR/ORP schedule this year makes us all winners. Let's provide the support to them that shows we deserve and appreciate their continued presence. :great:

Lou most guys here won't even know Ron Haslam. It's a UK/Euro thing. I think if I understand your ? Your wondering if doing only the trackday or should you do the premier which is actual instructional one on one.

If your a new track rider and needing more guidence I'd do the instructional (premiere) program. Ron is I'm sure very good. After u do an instructional school, then u can do just regular on track days.

Good luck.

i,m probably one of the few guys on here that has done the Ron haslam school the premier is the one i did back in the day thats how i got my ACU license .if i remember thier was two riders to an instructor and you have a ear pieace so that he can talk to you and give you instruction as you go. i would do the premier one you will get way more out of it a specialy if you never been on the track before its a hole different world.
And for the rest of you over here take the star school even if you think or are fast it worth it . You will see first race next year:36_7_1:
