We are looking to switch to Mac OS at the shop and want to know if we can import our windows QB 2007 onto the mac without rebuying the $500 license? I would think so, but not sure. Anyone?
Also who is good internet provider for the shop? tired of Qwest DSL!

BTW: My qwest dsl is 1.5m down and 500k up
Comcast is saying my shop can be 6.0m down and 768k up
Sounds like alot faster no?

You should be able to run quickbooks on your macs with a program called bootcamp. I am not sure if you can get the old quickbook files to the new macs. Maybe if you save them on a something and then transfer. idk I will say, you will probably like Macs much better. Just my .02

You will have to partition the hard drive for windows to use the same version of QB07 ala BootCamp. If you can get Quicken to give you a copy of QB07 for the Mac, just be sure to have auto updates turned off. They just had a critical flaw in a recent update that deletes the desktop folder after it installed. Business-wise, Mac's are more form and PC's more function.

VMware is where it is at... bootcamp and parallels are so 2006 early 2007. If he is running VM then he can run Quickbooks natively while running under OSX. And no new licenses required etc. $70 and a box and he is good to go.

Vmware is great (i been using esx server since before vmware was a company heheh). Why go to all that trouble though just to go to Mac. Don't get me wrong I am not against Macs. I am against having to buy software to "emulate" aspects for other software, spending the extra money for a mac, and all that jazz. If a company is already Macs, stick with it...great systems. If you are a pc company same applies. The addage of a PC is better at 1 thing and a Mac at others really doesn't apply anymore.

The one thing you are missing is that Eric has an iPhone and really really wants a Mac so he can sync everything and maybe someday even spend the 15 seconds it takes to setup his phone's VM.

Depending on the license agreement, it may be by "per install" instead of by the actual version. What this means is that your license fee covers a single installation on a single PC for a certain period of time regardless of the version (PC or Mac). I would recommend contacting Intuit support for clarification or looking at your license. They may just tell you to download the Mac version and use the same license key.
All you guys talking about Eric dual booting or running some kind of virtualization software are dorks. Why make it more complicated than it has to be???? Eric != 133t

All he really wants to a fast network connection, he doesn't need a mac, he needs one of these network jockies to fix his setup at the shop. Oh, and a machine that doesn't go all blue screen on him.

Eric - you may want to look into this one...

It's a badass point-of-sale program for the mac, and I'm only recommending cuz I think it imports QB databases. If it doesn't, disregard. I didn't do a ton of research on it but I saw it the other day and it looked pretty cool -- PLUS you can get stats sync with your IPHONE...so that way you don't have to jump through a million hoops to run quickbooks pc version.
