AmEx Gets Access to Bailout Fund
Fed Approves Move to Bank-Holding Company; Won't Change Core Focus

American Express Co. won fast approval to become a bank-holding company, helping the credit-card giant gain access to a chunk of the $700 billion in federal funds being pumped into financial firms.

Awesome huh?

From Eric's link:

This is even worse than the bailout. There is zero oversight or disclosure.

FUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX dont even get me mother fucking started on muther fuckers at amex those cock sucking ass fucking DLPDLPDLPDLP suckers! (sorry i used c word i know) They back when i first started to open a shop in 1998 fucked up my account SOOO bad it took forever (like TWO YEARS) for them to give me the nearly $1,200 they owed me...i dropped them in 2001...then in 2006 i thought i'd give another try (they have some good benefits for small bus) but yes...AGAIN have my account fxxked up..onec sent me an statement showing i owed $890,228!!! "Opps, sorry we have accounts crossed" i was LIKE HOLY SHIT i have less than $1,000 owed to ya if only 20 secs late and yet people owe you this month over 60 days??? Now i am on my 5th rep with them trying to get the THOUSANDS of dollars of misplaced interest on my account from someone elses account...SERIOUSLY no wonder they need a bailout! DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED on how they pay their merchants! Last year LAST YEAR gywnne took 3 charges from customers on their amex cards (she "forgot" we didnt take them) and i just LAST MONTH got paid!!!! Less of course @8% rate!

+1 AMEX blows ass! We are given these cards here at work for biz travel, I called to get a quote for my travel, they gave me one so I could get manager approval, I was then told we have our own in house AMEX people, so I booked the travel through them, only to find out when I called amex for the quote, they booked it as well, that hour between getting a quote and getting approval turned into 6 months of me calling to get the charges off my card, and they wanted my company to pay a 300.00 cancellation fee...

Ya this is just down right corruption. Not a total shock though, a lot of people predicted this. My girlfriends brother is an investment banker and I remember him calling this quite a while ago, and he doesn't even deal with US companies.....

At least there was a little good news, depending on your perspective:

THEN AFTER closing, Intel lowered its fourth-quarter revenue and earnings outlook, citing a spending slowdown that is reducing demand for its computer chips. Intel's stock fell in after-hours trading, and its announcement was likely to trigger more selling across the market on Thursday.

GREAT JOB AMERICA! :(((((((((((((((((((

I think this is something like maxing out all your credit cards right before you file for bankruptcy.

Ed Who?
11-13-2008, 10:29 AM
You can do that??? WHat about maxing out CC's, Lines of Credit and THEN filing for bankruptcy, moving to COsta Rica and say opening a bar with Wi-fi?
