With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had purchased $1000.00 of Delta Airlines stock you would have $49.00 left.
If you had purchased United Airlines, you would have nothing left.

But ... if you had purchased $1000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for recycling, you would have $214.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
This is called the 401-Keg Plan.

The idea is to save your last few cans to drink while you are standing there. Plan ahead as they say.

Man, what kind of beer are you buying?!? $0.23 a can? Yikes!

I've updated this to reflect the current economy, keep in mind I did this at the start of the day, before the market had fallen another 500 pts.

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Citigroup stock one year ago, it would now be worth $180.

With AIG, you would have $52 left of the original $1000.
With Fannie Mae, you would have less than $15 left.
If you had purchased $1000.00 of Freddie Mac stock you would have $20 left.
If you had purchased Washington Mutual, you would have nothing left.

But ... if you had purchased $1000.00 worth of beer (at $0.50 a beer) one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for recycling, you would have $45.36.
