I went into gp suspension about a month ago and they told me for my bike 07 r1 I need to get an 03-05 r6 rear shock. I'm not doubting their knowledge in any way, but I want to know why an r6 rear shock ? is it stiffer than my r1, or more adjustment options ? also. I assume 06 R6S rear shock would work just as well ?
and my other question is. the bike came stock with pilot powers, they seem to be ok, but I'm looking for something a bit more sticky especially since I'm starting to do some track days (mind you a few means 2-3/yr so not many) any recommendations on better tires ? and what psi would be good for PP's ?
thx

Definitely text Barry as everyone else suggests, he'll enlighten you.
That said, as he's done this for me and my bike (185lbs and '04R1) it was just a spring transplant + delrin preload spacer (R6 spring is just a little shorter) + GP valving IIRC. Works good enough for my "old" beastie.

he replied and I added his # so I can text him from now on. if anyone else was curious he said the shock pretty much lacks rebound :)
~235 to revalve it vs 30-60 bucks for a used r6 shock. yea I can see the route I'll probably take for now lol.

I don't think the stock R6 shock will fit in the 07 R1, I believe they are different lengths and the piggy back resevoir is angled different as well. As Tim said we can put a different spring on his and did the valving.
