Ed. I just purchased a low miles, very abused zx7r 2002. Im tearing the bike apart, even the engine.
Any recomendations...
The ports are huge, nooo. sorry bigger than hugge on the intake, (I thought is this a zx14 or something) on the ex port, no so big is a bit smaller than my 2.0 turbo STI..... are this thing turbo and I have a lemon....
The headers are same as a gsxr1000.....
this thing is built for war or to knock down humbees or something, so many bolts, steel plates and unnecesary things....
Wy I purchased this bike.
1- 900 USD legal papers.
2- Need a everyday and ocasionaly track day bike for cheap.
3- Saw Ed. one and fell in love.
Ed.. Im lost..... what do I need to do with this bike.... I need to get more power, to get it faster than current 600cc and make it a bit lighter.
Thanks

go down 1 front, up 2 back. GOOD pipe, shim stock needles 1mm, drop main jets down 1 size (they are staggered LARGELY on them) run stock air filter. and just enjoy.

motor wise, they LOVEEEE Compression. Just degree the cams 104/107 mill head (check ptv), and set squish no tighter than .030". lighten/balance the crank!!! just clean up head, dont port anything. stock ignition timing.

Wy not port the head? Just asking.... I was going to epoxy the intake.
Im taking the engine apart, I will balance the crank and see if they lighten it also, Im shure they balance it near my home (the only place in DR)
I have to replace the needles on the carbs since they are worn out so Im thinking of a Factory Pro jet kit since they come with needles. and the price of the stock replacement
needles and mains is almost the same as the jet kit.
I will order the stock filter, just 10 USD nice!
What is the stock real red line, I need that to change gearing, here we ride very fast, and I dont whant to see my bike in red line and people passing me in 600cc bikes.
Cant I use a 2 layer head gasket? That head does not look like It can take a lot of skim?
I already have,
SS lines and mc brembo
I will order later on the proyect CL pads from you (very, very satisfied with the combo you recomended me). The thing is that the bike came with some strange calipers tokiko 4 pots (some guys have told me that some units came like that)! That use the same pads as the 2004 + R1, I ordered some used parts and a guy gave me a full brake sistem (6 pot ones that use the same pads as the gsxr1000 K2) and then I will decide wich calipers I will use depending on your sugestions and weight.
Plan to adjust the slipper clutch, yes guys this old school comes with torque back limiter, you just buy the steels for 7 USD (need 2-4) with correct height for your taste!.
Thanks for your help

That bike will never be as light or as fast as a modern 600cc bike.
I rode one for over 20k it was a great relationship, but alas, I had to upgrade to a slimmer and younger gal.....
Enjoy!

If she starts, runs smoth and turns like its on rails, and brake strong then I will be happy.
I just whant to make her the best I can on the budget, I dont plan to spend a lot of money on that bike.... except the paint all work will be done by my brother and me here in the lab....
it will be the perfect bike for riding around town, and teach my brother to ride, and ocasionaly blast, but I whant the bike to have decent power.
Im using sport turing tires on that bike, that to my surprise have good grip if they are modern (Roads, stradas) and give excelent mileage.

I DEVELEOPED the ZX7R kit with Mark at Factory Pro. We never made needles, only emulsion tubes. it works well.
No need to port the head, sure the epoxy will help if done right.
redline is low, 12,800.
you can use the 2 layer HG IF YOU check squish. NOt sure what you have. min i would run on it is .029". head can be milled, lots of room.
they only ever came with tokico 6 pot calipers. the RR came with nissin 6 pots (same on mv agusta's)
slipper clutch standard on the ZX 7 since 1991!! NO ONE gives it credit for having one over 17 years ago!!!!

Thanks, I will change 2 needles that I have bad, and buy the -1 size main that you told me.
Ok on the brakes, maybe the owner put this on, that dont belong to the bike. I had to buy a zx363 switch and throtle tube + cables to install a diferent brake mc.
The engine is apart now, so I will have lots of time to clean everything and inspect.
12800 rpm, that is very low.
Thanks for your advice man.
